The Society Takes a Break

Shadows of November by SB Borgersen

The Liverpool Literary Society is taking a breather from scheduled formal gatherings. Meetups will be ad hoc, generally somewhere around a table with (maybe) wine, tea, coffee etc. and good conversation, between now and 2016.

Members may also announce independent meetings via the email circulation list.

Upcoming launches/readings etc. (Suzanne Atkinson’s new book, Station Secrets, has arrived; her book launch is set for Sept.20 at Memories CafĂ©, Liverpool.)
Man-Booker Prize long list  read all about it here

Do Book covers look disturbingly similar?  the blurb from The Independent is here

-        Writers Fed of NS has announced establishment of regional coordinators. What will this mean for us?  Link to the Writers Fed

Kat is in the chair  - see you all there

Wednesday, 15 July 2015

The Liverpool Literary Society gathers tonight (15 7 15) at 7 pm at Lane's Privateer Inn - probably in the bar for an informal summer sesh. Pretty much in the style of Will (Shakespeare) and Sir Walter (Raleigh), John (Donne,) and Ben (Jonson) at The Mermaid Tavern in 1603. Booky people don't change over the centuries; any excuse for a noggin and a chin wag. All very much welcome. Just bring a smile and an anecdote (optional).

Cape Breton Author Frank Macdonald to Visit South Shore

Cape Breton Humourist Frank Macdonald at Vogler’s Cove
Award-winning columnist and humourist Frank Macdonald will appear at Vogler’s Cove Community Hall on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at 7 p.m., reading from his Cape Breton novels: his third novel, Tinker and Blue – the rollicking adventures of two Cape Breton boys far from home in 1968 San Francisco – and his earlier funny and poignant novels A Forest for Calum and A Possible Madness (both nominated for the Dartmouth Book Award and long-listed for the IMPAC-Dublin Award).
Frank Macdonald is a reporter and columnist with his home-town weekly newspaper, The Inverness Oran. South Shore readers know him as the writer of a column of home-spun humour in Rural Delivery magazine, published in Liverpool. In 2011 his play Her Wake won Best Canadian Production at the Liverpool International Theatre Festival. He has also published two collections of newspaper and magazine columns and toured a one-man play depicting a day in the life of a newspaper columnist.
His partner, artist Virginia McCoy will join him at Vogler’s Cove. Her bold, colourful paintings illustrated Mr. Macdonald’s children’s story, T.R.’s Adventure at Angus the Wheeler’s, published in 2010 by Cape Breton University Press. Mr. Macdonald has donated all four novels to the Read & Share Corner library at Vogler’s Cove Community Hall.
Co-hosts are the VCCH Read & Share Corner and the Liverpool Literary Society. Vogler’s Cove Community Hall is located at 8544 Highway 331, Vogler’s Cove (Exit 16 or 17 off the 103). Free admission. Refreshments. Copies of Mr. Macdonald’s books will be available to purchase from the author.  Details at and on Facebook (Voglerscovecommunityhallmaggiesplayground).
